“We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give.”- Winston Churchill. What you give comes back. What is this giving? Almost everyone in his/her life might have wondered what exactly do we give and what can be considered as giving.
Lets look at this.
“An act performed without any selfish desire, and with no expectation of return is a giving. Serving people selflessly.”
When you gift a friend without expecting praise or a return gift. When you wish well to others without expecting them to do it for you. When you perform a task without an expectation of thank you in return. When you pray for others without your own rewards.
Giving is not to receive, perhaps, doing it with conscience of no reward. We know, when we give something with the mindset of not receiving awards for it, universe rewards abundantly. That’s the Law of LIFE, Law of GIVING.
A giver is always rejoicing. He doesn’t only make the receiver happy, but also receive blessings in return.
“No one has ever become poor by giving,” noted Anne Frank. Is giving materialistic? Nope. It is anything whether financial or emotional drive, act of happiness, help, etc.
When you start expecting things in return and those wishes do not get fulfilled, it gives rise to jealousy, sadness, anger. Which cannot be associated with giving.
Mother Teresa quotes, “It’s not how much we get but how much love we put into giving.”
Yesterday one of my friend asked me to pamper her. And I couldn’t help but laugh. She said how do you call yourself giver when you don’t give what is asked. Well, in my opinion, that wasn’t a giving, that was something on demand.
Giving is an act of performing something what feels right from within. It is not exactly what people ask, it is what people do not ask or anticipate. It is heard within.
Supposedly, if your parents ask money from you during their old age, and you give them. Is it giving? As stated earlier, the answer of giving lies in your conscience. Helping people without an expectation of return.
Princess Elizabeth Bibesco once said, “Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting.”
I share my thoughts, and try to inspire people in whichever manner I can. It feels good when well wishers text me out of the blue, “Akash your posts boosts my mental energy.” “I needed the exact post to motivate one of my friend.” “I really appreciate your optimistic attitude towards life, it is reflected in your words, I can feel it.” “That made me smile.” “You are my dose of positive thinking.”
When I started writing, I did not anticipate or do it to get compliments from others. I wrote to share whatever I know, to help people overcome any obstacles. To guide them in their path so that they realize their potential. Share Happiness. And to suggest them to follow the leaders of success. At the end of the day,
“You reap what you sow. You get what you give. What you see in others exists in you.”
So what are you giving today?
